Performance is like a knife…
Performance is like a knife that might have different levels of sharpness. Trust is like knowing that the knife’s blade won’t suddenly snap and endanger you or someone you care about.
This metaphor came to me as I was pondering what would be a visual way to describe a relationship between trust and performance.
With this metaphor, it makes total sense that Navy SEALs believe that a medium performer with high trust is much better for a team than a high performer with medium trust.
What kind of metaphor comes to you? What’s performance and trust are like to you?
And, bonus questions for those responsible for teams and missions:
? What’s the main mission of your team (be it in your personal or professional life)?
?What is the level of mutual trust with the key members of your team?
? If the trust is high – acknowledge it and celebrate!
? If the trust is not as high – is there a way to restore it and build it up? What would that take?
?What would give you the clarity to know if it’s better to go separate ways with certain team members if you want to protect the mission and fulfill the vision of the team?
What comes up for you?
To your success – inside out,
Lucie
