The Wolf CIO Quiz From Gartner
Are you more comfortable using the powers of the dark or forces of the light as the source of your IT Leadership?
Take the Wolf CIO quiz from Gartner and find out:
The book “The Wolf in CIO’s Clothing” by Tina Nunno has helped many CIOs, including me, move from being order takers to business leaders. In her book, she takes a deep dive into the mindset of hundreds of CIOs. She suggests that for CIOs to be successful leaders, they must change their mindset around power, conflict, and risk-taking by deploying various strategies.
Inspired by Tina’s work, I have joined forces with IT leaders to implement powerful strategies for successful IT leadership.
She describes those strategies as “the light side” and “the dark side” of leadership behavior. Although technologists tend to think in binary mode, black or white, effective leadership usually happens in the middle, in the grey zone, rather than at the extremes.
?You know you need to become more assertive.
?You know you should stop being an order taker.
?You know you need to become comfortable enforcing yourself as a business leader.
?You know you need to be more strategic about communication with stakeholders.
?You know you need to create a winning leadership strategy and become proactive.
?You know you need to create motivated teams within IT.
?You know you need to create an army of fans, so they strengthen your leadership position.
?You know you need to develop loyal followership & facilitate creativity to improve performance.
? But you are constantly fighting battles that others force upon you, you have lost your focus, and you are losing control.
I can assure you that having someone at your side who has been there before and knows the politics of IT can help you succeed quicker than trying to do it on your own.
If you want to succeed, getting an IT leadership coach and a mental fitness trainer is one of the best winning strategies you can deploy.
